Subject: Cowon D2
My Karma was dying it's death, with the second battery I'd installed now running for about 5 hours. I am off to South America backpacking next month, so I needed something with a) more juice and b) more capacity. I chose the Cowon iAudio D2 16Gb, no DAB.
I've had it for a week, and I'm quite impressed with it. As a whole, the interface is good, but it could do with a few additions (minor things like being able to choose 'artist' through an alphabet instead of in one massive list, etc). The touchscreen works well, and the unit as a whole feels solid. It sounds as good as my Karma to my ears, through the same earphones (Sony MDR-EX71s) and mp3 files. Playback is good, also, but there's no gapless. Still, it's a very small gap; it's just odd to hear one after 4 years 6 months of Karma-goodness. I've not played with the video too much, since it appears to bea gimmick (the screen is 2.5", so not really good for more than a few minutes at a time.
However, the best part is the memory/battery combination. The manufacturer states about 52 hours for music, and while I've not tried that exactly, it's lasted me a week with about 3 hours each day, and still showing half charge. The internal memory is 16Gb, pretty hefty, with an SDHC expansion port. I've got a 16Gb card coming in the post soon, and seeing as the cards are hot-swappable, this is pretty much all I'll need for the coming years, and particularly my trip!
I give it an 8/10, when compared to the Karma's 9. Any deficiencies (no gapless, awkward interface) are outweighed by the nice color screen (album art looks so sweet after a b&w screen!) and the huge memory/expandability.
Anyone have one? Thoughts?
