Yeah Peregri ;-) ne, I wouldn't give up totally on yours yet.  When mine's good, its great.  But on its bad days, it sucks.  I'll  be lucky to get through a full song before the battery shows like maybe 10-15 drainage (with all the disc spinning from restarting). Then it gets a little less frequent.

I have noticed that if it dies while the disc is spinning, upon restart it will do a check disc. Usually if this happens, the restarts are even less frequent. Weird...

One more thing, I've noticed that when its doing its own check disk thing,  mine skips from 45% directly to 75%.  Does this mean there's a corrupted portion of my hard drive?  If so, would I be able to partition the drive to exclude using that part?  Am I asking dumb questions?   ;-)

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Having a hard time getting it started now. :(
Plug it in, battery charge icon comes up and then freezes and locks up.
When mine does check the disc it never skips like that. I would think if it found a bad spot it would say something though. Maybe?!?

Not to resurrect the "supercap" debate, but take a look at this pic of a naked prototype vibez (from 2006) and what it says as at the very top of the PCB.

And hey, check out that wheel, too!  :D

*sigh*
Died 20 minutes later on my scoot home. :(
Not lookin' good.

So, I broke down and put I put some music on my phone. How frikkin awful. WinMobile has a LONG way to go to catch even the standard lil' Verizon VCast phones... Sound Q was AWFUL, no Playlisting tools at all, no EQ, not even Treble/Bass.... Love the phone (Motorola Q9C) but forget it for music... REALLY disappointed. MS makes it seem like it was an afterthought.

VibeZ still acting beyond flaky. Loaded a gig of music on my phone.
The adapter you need for headphones is so loose and flaky it keeps cutting out. I have ear buds inside my helmet for riding the scooter and I cannot even hear the WinMobile player at all over traffic and ascooter noise.
Deleted my music off it.
Oh and good old WMP 11 deleted my custom ringtones when it synched music to it. -sigh....

Guess I will dust off the old Karma while I decide if I am going to wait for the Vibez-F or get the Creative X-Fi.
Little tired of waiting for players to come out from companies, if ya'll know what I mean.... and most of you do. ;)

I wrote an email to Trekstor and they told me they had never heard of the issue. And I should try a firmware upgrade (funny guys, just don't read mails). I replied and got no answer back yet. Still, I'm curious how it can be that so many people on this forum have this problem and yet Trekstor never heard of it. Could it be the beta firmware after all?

I doubt it's the firmware, or I think more people would see it more of the time.  So far mine hasn't shut itself off but maybe 2 times in the year and a half that I've owned it.

I did test it with the original FW. No difference.

All right, that's a valuable piece of information. But then why didn't more people complain? Like none if it's true what the support guy said.

Mine's been working fine for the last 6 days (and counting..).   So here's what happened:

I'd been having the same troubles as the rest of you, sudden-death and whatnot.  At times after dying down my player would refuse to start up again without either hitting the reset button or--should that fail too-- removing the battery and then replacing it.

At one point after refusing to start back up, I just didn't bother and it began getting really hot.  I freaked, took off the back cover and removed the battery.  I had just gotten to work, and so I left the battery out for the duration (10 hour day).

Later, I replaced the battery and viola!  The resurrection!   I've been treating it like normal this week(no kids gloves!), 'cause i figured it would revert back to its previous state at some point.  No sign of that yet though.

So in summation: had problem, removed battery for extended period, problem fixed (for now).  I've no idea how this would solve anything, especially since it seemed like a physical problem.  Anyway, thought i'd let you folks with the same problem know and offer it as a suggestion to try. Good Luck

You just described almost exactly what mine does. Some times when it's in that dead state, if I plug it in with a wall charger the battery charging icon comes up and then freezes.

Mine's still working as it should.  I've played with more settings, connected it to my computer, my girlfriend's laptop, and the computer's at work.  Loaded and deleted several gigs of music.  Used it with my PX-100s and the original buds (easier to hide at work) and connected it in my truck and to my home stereo system.

All systems go so far.  I wonder what the problem could have been.  Anyone else here with this issue try what I did yet? I'm interested in hearing if it was just some great coincidence or if it will be helpful to anyone else.

Another update:  After about 2 weeks, I was connecting to my computer and my system froze.  My Vibez rebooted after disconnecting and played fine. The next morning morning it would not turn on, so i took off the back and hit the reset button.  It powered on, but as soon as I picked a song to start playing it died.

So once again ( i was on my way to work) I took out the battery and left it out for another 7 hours or so and replaced the battery.  So far its been working just fine again with one exception.

It powered down when i was using a calculator on my couch and accidently dropped it right onto the vibez.  So it happened just the once in the 3 days since trying the battery trick again.

Subject: odd
I seem to be a lucky one here.  I ordered my Vibez from Amazon (directly) and have never had any issues with it for over a year now.

I am not crazy enough to use it for 'active' tasks like jogging, I have a very small flash-based player I use that runs on one 'AAA' battery.  I expect that thing to last forever, only cost $20 from Walmart at the time.  Not any of the nice features of the Vibez but for workouts it is very sufficient and I'm never afraid of breaking it, I can go all out!

Whatever technology says, sometimes you have to use common sense.  Hard drive players really aren't designed for exercise, or if you do shake them around a lot it could cause a 'sudden death' issue when the internal mechanisms fail.

Assuming that people are only using their Vibez in a stationary manner (or docked), these 'sudden death' issues are disconcerting.

I'll keep an eye on things and see how this player goes, but at the least its not another iPod.  I always get a few stares from people who are very curious and amazed at this player that looks so beautiful.  I must say that if nothing else, Trekstor's Vibez gets an 'A' for looks.  Sleek and sexy.  ^_^
