Subject: For those of you who have purchased a spare battery...
how do you use it exactly?  What I mean is, obviously you have the one functioning battery in your vibez and the back up for when that one runs out.   How do you keep your back up charged?  Is this only done when you know you're going to need it i.e.  a long trip with no access to a charging source that will outlast the one battery.

I ask because I am tempted to buy one for my almost 1 yr old Vibez, mostly just to have as a backup.  I almost never go on long trips, and the above situation is one that would not apply to me.  I guess I was mostly concerned that my battery would eventually stop holding a charge for very long, in which case I could start using the new battery.

I just didn't really see a practical situation of using the two batteries in conjuction, since there is not a way to charge the battery when it's not in the Vibez, correct?

Thanks for any and all feedback.   Oh and a little heads up, it seems the batteries for the Vibez (and the FM tuner card) are on clearance on the Target website!

Yes, this is what I do.

This is another reason I got one. My wife had a dead battery on her first iPod Nano.

Thanks for this. I just checked and Amazon also had the FM for US$8.49. I wasn't going to get one of these, but at this price why not.

I honestly can't imagine the player outlasting the battery.

Not surprised an iPod battery died. They aren't really known for quality batteries.  ;)

I am starting to doubt this as well, but I have still gotten good use from my extra battery during plane trips and various outdoor adventures.

I appreciate the comments guys.  Also great news about your Vibez Peregrine; I hope she's still running strong.

While I'm at it, has anyone else around had a good experience with the FM tuner.  Rick pointed out the price, so I might just get one of those (as well? instead? haven't decided).  I figure at that price, it's worth getting whether it works flawlessly or not.

The old thread on the tuner didn't have many comments, but seemed kinda 50/50 as to its performance.

So far still kicking it. Amazing.

I like the tuner. Don't use it a ton, but it works well. It works just like the old school cd/radio players where the headphone cable is your antenna. As a result it sometimes cuts in and out from mono > stereo as your are walking around. Overall, it works well enough for as much as I use it. It looks cool. No RDS but you can name the stations that you use as presets. I like how when you have the tuner on, the RESUME PLAY button shows up. Click that and right back to your playlist where you left off.

For $9? Recommend. I paid $15.

Just wanted to add:
I love College radio. There's a station here in town... probably the best station we have in town ( http://www.wbwc.com ) from Baldwin Wallace College... anyway: being the IT Manager at my firm I think it is inappropriate to use my bandwidth to stream radio from the Internet... so I use my Vibez to listen. Plug it direct into some speakers, set the tuner to 88.3 and I can listen to WBWC all day (well until they stop playing the ALT music). And it comes in crystal clear, better then a clock radio, actually.

The radio works quite ok.

Actually I think reception could be a bit "cleaner" with less influences from neighbouring channels, but maybe my headphones do not qualify as qood antennas, I do not use the standard head phones.

Overall, it works, and the most annoying thing is the lack of RDS, radio itself works well.

However I've not yet found a way to record things from radio, my previous TrekStor i.Beat Organix could record from radio, even timer-controlled, so I could program it to record specific radio shows for me. It seems to me as if this is not possible with the Vibez.

I made the same experiences with the radio. The qualitiy really is not the best. Therefore I see no need for a recording function from the tuner. Nevertheless IMHO it's a software "problem". The tuner data is received by the SMPT circuit like the microphone signals (see http://www.sigmatel.com/products/portable/audio/stmp3700.a…). Even the tuner chip offers the ability to use the radio for recordings.

Indeed what's really missing is the RDS data processing. The tuner chip delivers this informations (see http://www.sigmatel.com/products/portable/wireless/fmtuner…

I also have a spare battery, and as such, swap them every 3 months. This keeps them charged AND addresses and memory effect.

Memory effect? The spare batteries they sell here are Lithium-ion batteries. Bad to discharge them too much but no memory effect.

Also, LiIOn batteries will age quickly no matter if being used or not due to the chemically aggressive ingredients.

LiIon batteries should be stored 75% charged in a fridge if not used.
