Subject: From extremely happy to extremely sad.
I just hit send on the following email to TrekStor support:

Dear TrekStor support,

I've been an extremely happy owner of a TrekStor vibez since March of last year, but now it seems to be dead.
During a sync with my computer, are started noticing songs fail to sync and found the hard drive on the vibez making a repetetive unhealthy sounding click.  I stopped the sync, disconnected the vibez when WMP11 told it was safe to do so.  But the vibez never went to the finalizing screen.  Unable to power it off, I tried the reset button and got no response.  I physically removed and reinserted the battery.  On power up, the vibez started "Checking Disk" where it is now stuck at 69% and has been for about 10 minutes.

Could I please submit this for an RMA under warranty, even though I'm slightly over?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

No matter what I do, "Checking Disk" never advances past 69%.  I am not a happy camper right now.

Welcome to my world...

Think you can swap the hard drive? I can send you mine, which I am pretty sure is NOT a hard drive issue.
I wouldn't mind if mine went to help someone resurrect theirs.

Thanks for the offer.  Let me see how TrekStor responds.  If necessary, I'll try to invoke my credit card's purchase protection.  This should extend the warranty by a year, but I'm not sure what that gets me.

Holy Shih-Tzu!  It might be back from the dead!  WinXP Check Disk to the rescue??  I'll let you know (roughly) what I did if this actually works.  (fingers & toes crossed)   8-(

Ok, so it's working, but I'm not completely convinced it's going to stay that way.  We'll see.

Problem number one was getting past (or around) the point where the self check disk was getting stuck at 69%.  I found that if you remove the back cover before the check disk hangs, the vibez turns itself off cleanly.  On the following boot up, it does *not* attempt the check disk.

Once I had it booted up, I set it to MSC mode, connected it to my PC, and ran WinXP Check Disk on it.

Not quite working properly, yet, and WMP synching was being very wacky, so I ran the Restore Factory Defaults menu option (*Don't forget to set the date & time*).

I've loaded about 20% of my music library back on, and so far it's working beautifully.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I had some problems similar to yours I posted about in another thread. Random shutoff/rebooting.  Check disk hanging.  Windows Scan Disk utility helped me as well!

Best of luck!!

Also, don't forget the "hold menu and connect" method as seen here:
http://www.riovolution.org/post/12944

This has saved me several times. In fact, this method might get us out of most "stuck" situations. I also posted a link to this in the FAQ thread, but it might have been overlooked. Maybe some of these methods could be added to your troubleshooting FAQ so they will be easier to find.
