Well it seems Mudd was right.  After getting the new battery and waiting for it to charge fully, my vibez played maybe a full 20-30 minutes then shut off.  The shutting off is similar to pressing the reset button; the vibez stops and the screen fades out.  Upon restart, it usually picks up (slightly) behind where it last was.

Its done the same thing several times since, but not nearly with the same frequency.  Its gone as long as maybe a couple of hours without a random reboot, which sure beats the hell out of every 2-3 songs.  I'm really not sure what to make of it.

Even though i've only had it 11 months, I do play the hell out of the thing.  On average i'd been using it maybe 8-9 hours a day.  Maybe its just breaking down.  I do plan on riding it til the wheels fall off though; can't help it, it's my favorite toy.

Maybe if Trekstor ever gets their butts in gear and releases a follow up to the vibez, i'll be in. Or hopefully some other company latches onto (and takes advantage of) sigmatel's chip.

This seems to be quite common now. Maybe it is a FW issue after all. I don't remember seeing this behaviour of my vibez until recently. And I don't remember other people describing it in this forum. Maybe all our devices are wearing out. Or it's something that can be fixed.

I had the same problem but never tought it as a signal of hard death. The device is great, only have a few problems that Trekstor do not support to fix...

Hey, I've suffored the same issue and some others.
A few weeks ago, my Vibez was like normal. But then (suddenly:S) it started up, and started to play all the songs in the playlist, but then at the speed of FFW...Pressing buttons didn't help...So I pushed reset, no result, flashed the new firmware on it, and it worked again.
Then after a week or so, just like the users above, it suddenly shuts down after playing some songs. Sometimes after 5min, and sometimes after 30min. But is isn't the hard-drive, is is? Because when I unplug the battery, and run the player directly from the AC adapter, it runs for hours without problems.
But with a completely fresh battery, it worked...a bit...any shock would make it to turn of...
And at this moment it is truely dead I guess. When I press the powerbutton, or when I plug in the USBcable, it displays "UPGRADER" on the screen. I've heard of this kind of issue on Rio players, and there it was a sign that your player is (almost) dead.
Can I re-incarnate my Vibez? Any suggestions?

Mine has only done that twice before.  The first time I flashed it.  The second time though I plugged it into the computer, then unplugged it and it restarted like normal  (out of upgrader mode). So you might wanna try that.

You might also try hitting the reset button.  I'd imagine that the hard boot would take it out of upgrader, though I wouldn't know if it would force a format as well.  If your button doesn't work (like some have said) removing the battery for a length of time should probably accomplish the same.

You could try flashing the vibez, since that is what upgrader mode is for.  Keep in mind though that it will format your player and you'd lose all data on it.  So ONLY attempt if you have everything  backed up on your computer.

On a side note, your Vibez works with the adapter only (and no battery)?!  I've tried that, but I only get a quick flash of the large battery-charging symbol, then nothing.  I figured I had to have the battery in to complete the circuit or something.

Got that "Upgrader" screen once. Recovered fairly quickly but gave me the creeps.
