There is a real serious problem with these units.  Trekstor has very serious problems with quality.  I think we should all get together and, as a group, send Trekstor an email.  There is no excuse for having a product that does not last more than 5 years.  I have disposed of electronics because they are outdated, but I can’t remember the last time I threw an electronic product away because it broke.

This is not a reincarnation of the Rio Karma!  It is a poor quality product!

If anyone is thinking of replacing their Trekstor, consider a Cowon D2 or pretty much anything other than a Vibez.

My hard drive died on my 8GB vibez and I tried to RMA it.  They charged me $15.00 for an upgrade to a 12GB unit.

I waited 3 months to get the 12GB, and when it came the f**king screen was not fully attached to the unit!  I took care of it myself, but  WTF!  Now I am getting the upgrader screen and it does not want to start up the first time I push the power button.

Just a matter of time before this piece of crap dies, and I will RMA it again.

This is totally unacceptable and I don’t think we should we should just accept it.  Either they take care of us, or we spread the word about faulty Trekstor players.  It is not slander if what we say about their players is true, so no worries about that.

Are you sure you want to risk it?  Given your previous pining for a dock, I've thought about offering it up.  But, (a) I wasn't sure if I was going to keep the Vibez, and (b) I didn't want to be responsible for someone else frying their unit.

Did I miss something? Docks are frying the Vibez?

Rxxdoc, good luck with that.  Sorry I can't back you up.  My vibez is still rocking after 14 months of heavy duty daily usage.

well mine seems to have bit the dust.  It started about 1 week ago, for some reason it just cut out while playing.  When I started it back up, it ran a check disk then decided to format itself.  My drive was wiped clean to I reflashed 1.16b  and reloaded a bit of music.

It seemed okay for a couple of days, but would cut out occasionally prompting me to reformat myself and run the check disk utility in windows.  After this it seemed fine until today.   No resets or anything, however when I tried plugging into my computer,  it would not recognize it as a drive.  I messed with the settings (msc,mtp...) and tried to reinstall the driver.  Nothing.  Finally at one point while connected it seems the Vibez crashed my system.  Upon restart, the Vibez was hanging on the "connected" screen (still connected to the computer).

It alternated between 'charging' and 'reading'  but still no drive popped up, and it wouldn't let me disconnect safely.  I took a chance and pulled it off the USB.

Now when trying to start up, it runs the checking disc screen but hangs at 56%.   I've left it several minutes but it won't go passed this point.  I have to hit the reset button to turn in off.  I've discovered that holding menu to enter upgrader mode won't work if the Vibez wants to scan the disk first. :(

Must be a hard drive problem.  Any ideas?  Sorry for the long post.

Razor, sounds very familiar.  Here's what I experienced, and how I brought mine back from the dead:  http://www.riovolution.org/thread/933

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ruben!  You know, I should remember that thread, i posted in it!    I must have skimmed your solution though, but following your steps I was able to put my player into upgrader and re-format the drive. It's wiped now and I just finished the check disk on it.

Keeping my fingers crossed. I might load some music on there now, or just wait until tomorrow.  Thanks again, and here's hoping it stays in good shape.

well, its alive and kicking now for about 48 hours.  I've only got about 1 gig worth of music on it, and haven't bothered changing layouts or fiddling much with the settings beyond EQ and quick buttons.   But it's played a good deal without any hiccups. Keeping my fingers crossed for now...

another update ( hope I'm not boring anyone).   I've been experiencing periodic powering off of the device.  I thought it might be faulty tracks, but massive deleting has not done the trick, nor has scan disk utility nor formatting and flashing the different firmware (lately i'm using the "official" 1.14)

Just today I noticed that while I had my Vibez charging while on my morning commute, there were no problems at all for ~50 minutes straight.  I use it again on my (30 minute) lunch break and it powers off on its own.  So repeat on my even longer commute home again and it stays on while charging.

So I'm guessing maybe a battery problem.  I've gone and ordered one off Amazon already. At the very least, I'm only out 13.50 plus shipping.  At most I've got my Vibez back!  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Does it shut down normally or does the power just go off, without the session being saved?

occams_razor & everyone...
I am going through a similar thing with the vibez that I just got: it won't power up on battery. Screen comes on, begins checking the disk but somewhere along the way it just shuts off.
Battery is a replacement that I got from Target.com & was working great the first day that I got it, then all of this starts. Seems to be ok on the USB cable. Using 1.14 beta.
The sound is awesome (my wife says that it's better than her Zen) but if I'm going to have to put up with stuff like this then I'm going for something else.

It powers off like normal i'd say.  I hit power to turn it back on and it does the quick Rebuilding database (not the long one like after adding music) and it resumes right where it left off.

Right, then it's a different issue.
