That's ankle's problem.  The only power I have over this place is to pull the plug on the domain name (which I don't intend to do).  This place does need a skin, however.
I don't think I can stay here anymore

Don't look at me, I don't have to the time or the creativity left within me to do a decent skin right now. However, I will put up any that someone finds or makes provided it isn't worse than this one.

I'm not up on all the different forum software, but why not invision, phpbb, vbulletin etc?  I haven't heard of this software before...

Invision and vBulletin are closed source and require money for the license fee. PHPbb is horribly out of date in comparison with other forum software and generally involves painfull manual updates every week. I was comparing the various open source forums and this one seemed to have the best user reviews, ratings and the developer seems to know how to use XHTML/CSS properly unlike most.

How much does an invision/Vb license cost?  I'm sure a few of us would be willing to put up a few bucks.

Gotta say, this thing us fugly, but I've gotten very used to it and it works nicely.  I can't tell from the link what simple machines is like.  The one background picture certainly looks more traditional

Click on community from the top bar.  Simple Machines' forum uses Simple Machines.
