Subject: The Metal Thread
So this is only for a few of us, but what the hell.

I've recently discovered Jesu, who are awesome; they're exactly what I'm looking for in music at the moment; drawn out, spacey and morose.

I've also recently got into Gojira, who are kinda like a cross between Mastodon and Meshuggah. Their latest is a concept about flying whales (awesome); quite repetitive but never boring.

I've a had a dry spell at the moment, because I'm trying not to download too many because I already have a massive backlog of CDs I want to buy, so any suggestions are welcome.

Gojira - From Mars to Sirus is truely a masterpiece.

Check out Kadenzza, pure genius.

Check out The Project Hate MCMXCIX. They filesystem checking rock. We should all know about Machinae Supremacy by now, but if you don't, check them out. For those of you with a more neoclassical bent, Lacrimosa is effing genius too.

Have I mentioned how much Draconian - The Burning Halo rocks? The first few tracks are solid, 4-7 are amazingly badass, and the last one is... well, it's OK, but it's kinda out of place with the rest of the tracks on the album. But this is only a small detractor.

The new Zao album is pretty fucking metal.  They seemed to have added some grind to their weird thrash-metalcore hybrid.  More and more like Carcass with every album.  I approve.

for the nostalgic crossover fans, check
http://www.earache.com/bands/municipal_waste/navigation/bi…

i saw one of their videos and loved it. it even sounds like it was recorded in the 80's.

Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Municipal Waste are the reigning kings of the New Wave of Crossover. Municipal Waste deliver blazing fast, raw thrash-core in the tradition of DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, "Animosity"-era Corrosion Of Conformity, Nuclear Assault and Attitude Adjustment. All barely in their 20's, the members of Municipal Waste inject youthful energy and humor into a classic genre they were too young to catch the first time around.

I just heard the new Strapping Young Lad album, 'The New Black'. It's totally awesome! Probably the softest of SYL's albums because at times it sounds a lot like the DTB. I'm actually really happy Devy's stopping for a bit, because all of his stuff is starting to merge. Standout track is 'Far Beyond Metal', because it has Oderous Ungerous (one of the GWAR dudes) on it. Plus, one track has a brass section.

Also, I need recommendations for things that sound like Ephel Duath, Fantomas and SikTh. By that I mean complex, jazzy metal with preferrably no vocals. Shoot.

That's a bummer.  I haven't really listened to Opeth since Blackwater Park, though.  I'll have to check out the newer stuff, it looks like they got similar reviews.
