I doubt it. That's the first we've seen it, I believe.

Only 2/3 of the memory, same price, same battery life... what's the point anyway?

All good questions...I was thinking perhaps

Maybe boots more readily on a very low battery, because it doesn't have to power up a hard disk drive?

More durable perhaps due to less internal moving parts?

Potential of hardware hacking to a larger memory size by hardware gurus in the forum, for example, by the forum member who knew the nitty-gritty details of FM receivers? (Many have looked for replacement disk drives...seems it would be easier to find replacement flash drives...maybe not.)

...etc.

Got me interested at this point ;) The HDD seemed to have an unusual voltage, perhaps this changed for the flash drive.

It will probably last FOREVER. That's a good point.

This would be great as long as it also allowed SDHC expansion. In fact, I think I would prefer it this way since it could keep the cost down but let us have multiple plugin libraries. I still like this feature of my RIO Forge.

Does the Forge take SDHC?  Or just SD? I've got two of them and they'd be great if only they had more capacity...

I'm still waiting for big CompactFlash cards to get cheap so I can upgrade my old Carbon.

I have only used SD in my Forge. I don't think HC was around then. I think HC requires some hardware differences to allow it to address more memory, so I don't think it would work, but I'm not 100% certain.

I think SDHC requires only software /firmware support...I had a moto E2 phone, it supported SDHC by updating firmware
