Oh, one feature request I just wanted to mention: I'm normally using album art as display background. If there is no album art to display however, a little graphic of the vibez gets shown. Well, it's nice as a default but I know what my player looks like so it'd be great to be able to change that to an arbitrary picture or animation. No priority for me though.

I get that too which doesn't worry me.  But it got me thinking ... if the vibez can play music while rebuilding the  database when switching off, why couldn't it play music while rebuilding the database when switching on in the old firmware?!

I haven't seen this at mine before. It stops playing, rebuilts the database and switches of. Is it depending from the filetype mp3/ogg/flac or doen't this matter? I think -as in mostly all other hdd devices- that there is a cache buffering the data and that is being flushed.

Good point. But IMHO rebuilding a database is always made when no access to it is required.

It doesn't play music during db rebuild in either scenario.

At the rebuild happens when data is added to the database.  Between syncs, the added data is the wave form (track profiler) that gets saved for each track when played to completion for the first time.

New request for defector:  in the interest of battery life, can we have the option to have the power button turn the vibez off completely rather than go into standby?

Well what I meant was of course that I can't find a "delete current track" function in the menu. Because this is what the "delete track" quick button probably does. Of course you can delete single tracks but as I said, sorting out some good tracks from a great number of new tracks is very cumbersome to do at the moment.

Subject: Thanks and...
Wow, I just found this great site tonight. I have Tony at Amazon to thank for his link.

I have downloaded the beta versions. We have two 12Gb Trekstors in the house, so will have to do one.

May this new user beg for a suggestion?  I listen to 3 hours programs on my iAudio. When I bought the Trekstor, I was hoping to use it exclusively, but it drives me nuts!  When I need to "rewind" or "fast forward", there is no option in the menu for skip length. So the Treksor either blasts through my 3 hour audio files by several minutes at a time (when I wanted 30 seconds, let's say)  :scared: , runs straight for the hills and begins the file anew :-O, or begins the next track. :'(  Any possible fix I can bribe ya for? My iAudio is okay....but it isn't a Vibez!

Thanks for your consideration and a great site!

Have you had any success with the seek option on the pop-up menu?

-Rotate the wheel a single click.
-when the popup appears, click to the right until you see the Seek screen.
- Spin away until you get to the time code you want.

Oh one more thing: Is there anything the firmware could possibly do about the single loud cracking noise when booting the vibez? Can't be good for one's ears.

Subject: skip length and bugs
Well, Peregrine, then thanks SO much!

Ruben, as to your question (Have you had any success with the seek option on the pop-up menu), yes, we have both tried it and it does the same thing. It just skips too much at a time on huge tracks. The Trekstor seems to adjust the skip length according to the track length. The iAudio has skip length options for "track", 2 sec, 3 sec, 4 sec, 5 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, and 30 sec. Those seems more appropriate for large and small files, rather than the Trekstor's few seconds for short tracks and whole minute for huge tracks.

We loaded beta v15 on BOTH players (with trepidation and fear, of course.  :huh: ) The first player was loaded on a WinXP machine. For it, the transfer mode had to be adjusted to MTP, as MSC or Auto wouldn't show up the safe removal utility on the System Tray. Minor, though some peeps may get goofed up with that.

For the second player, we attempted to load the beta from a Win98SE machine. It was a total no-go. Although Windows could see the player as a drive letter (as it always does), the beta.exe install couldn't see it at all. After a few attempts (reboot, etc.), we had to do it from XP. Good thing we had 2 machines.

I also had to set the player to Auto for the Transfer Mode on the Win98 machine, as any other kept randomly seeing it or not, yet the player thought it was connected. Then, after the player kept doing that, we would reconnect it to the PC, and, voila! the PC would see it. Setting it to Auto has fixed that problem. So on 98, it's Auto, and XP has to be MTP. No problems here on that for us, but again, some peeps may get caught up with it.

Now on one of the players, from the "Now Playing" menu, we tried to save a playlist. We could name it from there, cancel it from there, but it just would not save. Then we just did it the old-fasioned way and all was fine. NOW the playlist can be made from within the Now Playing menu, how weird is that? Haven't tried that yet with the other player---work thing keeps us busy.

Love the fact that the player no longer bumps us from the library, when a track is chosen. Love the fact that we can get rid of that pesky Rotary Popup. Absolutely love the fact that we can now modify a playlist. Finally a fix to the dumb "Hi, I am gonna loop if you dare to save a playlist while on repeat." Those peeps at Trekstor in NYC are nice, but clueless about it. All they'd say to me was to reset the player. Yep, that will work--NOT---though pulling out the battery while the thing was on--EGAD! did. Thanks so much for that fix. That was one of the most important fixes (IMHO), as pulling that battery out on an ON player couldn't be good for it.

Now, to beg for a skip length option. Can I trade an iAudio for it?  heh

This is how it seems to me too. Whether you seek with the wheel or by holding < or > buttons you get the same amount of skip, and a bigger skip for bigger tracks.

I use my Vibez a lot for audiobooks and podcasts, and this is very important to me. I don't care how this works for songs. I seldom want to seek within a song. I am more likely to just restart a song or skip it altogether. But when I am listening to an hour long podcast I often need to go back several seconds because I missed something.

I use mine 99.99% for music so I hadn't noticed this until IrishRose brought it up.  I happen to have a 55 minute stand-up comedy show on mine, and sure enough, using the wheel, it advances by more than 1 minute for each wheel click.  Holding < or > advances by about 15 or 30 seconds.

But as stated, it is not that often one would reverse/FF through a song. Audible books or podcasts are another matter, however.

I use mine for podcasts in the car as well. It can be very tricky to go back by the smallest amount the player will allow, which is often 30 seconds or more, but not hold the button down too short a time and go back to the beginning of the track instead.
