So I removed the image file using easytag and mid3v2 does not list any image-related tags any more. Still, the same error message persists.
I bet the Vibez is keeping cached the now-stale information that the file has embedded art. If you rename the file and restart the Vibez (you can rename it back again afterwards), the information should be updated as Vibez will think it's a new file.

This situation should be handled. Timestamps on both the file AND auto generated thumbnails should cause a refresh.

The original problem I will fix. We currently don't take note of the MIME type in the id3 APIC frame, the vibez should ignore "image/png".

Interneci (or anyone) if you can post an mp3 with png somewhere that'd be most helpful!

"Should be handled" meaning "we should fix this" or meaning "it should already work"? It doesn't already work; a refresh occurs but, IIRC, a refresh can't clear bits in the options field: it can only set them. That is, of course, a bug. (Which I probably caused; sorry.)

Yes of course, I just created a demo MP3 which shows the symptoms. The file is attached. I just created it using lame, added the image using easytag.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to ignore all unknown MIME types except JPEG images?

Greetings,

  Gunter

PS: I don't know if you read the wishlist thread lately, it'd be cool if one could use the Vibez' text viewer to (optionally) automatically display text "realted" to the playing track, related meaning embedded in some sort of tag or stored next to the sound file with a name derived from the sound file's name or something similar. :-)
(Yeah, I know, give me an inch and I will take a mile... Sorry, I'll be quiet now... ;)

PPS: No, I still have to say that I'm *REALLY* impressed by your responsiveness and will to accept feature / usage suggestions from us users. I've never seen this with any other hardware device so far, so I thought I should point this out! Thanks again, your new beta firmwares upgrade the Vibez from being a good music player to a *really great* one!

Please, please, please!! Add a setting for the low battery alarm, I was sleeping with some jazz music in my headphones and I can say that it is not a cool thing!!

Holy cripes!  I just encountered my first low battery warning and am now just recovering from an anxiety attack.   8-(

Any chance we could have that lowered to something less than DEFCON 1?  A single, subtle beep always worked just fine.

That said, I appreciate the work and response defector has shown!  Nowhere, outside of Peter and the old Rio team, have I seen anything like it!  Thank You!

Kinda funny, but I have to agree.  My kid got spooked in the car one day when the low battery alarm sounded through the car speakers.

Whilst talking about ID3 tags, can you display tracks that don't have ID3 tag track numbers simply in alphanumeric order ? My old mp3 player did this and I was a little surprised to find my files without these tags being shown out of sequence when I first got the Vibez.

The Folders view sort of does that, depending on how your songs files and folders are organized.  It does seem to list songs in alphanumeric order.  (Music Library/Folders/Music/SomeArtist/SomeAlbum - gives me a list of that albums songs in alphanumeric order.)

You know that if you record that alarm sound and play it backwards it says ...

"Worship the de ... fector"  ;-)

The next version will feature a bunch of on/off switches so all of you jazz listeners, parents-who-don't-want-their-kids-traumatised, etc can sleep soundly.

Depends on how old you are talking, I came in at the S10/S35/S50 stage.  :-)

So it does, but going via Artist-Album doesn't, my old Archos did and I had lots of stuff with only Artist/Album tags - the player then sorting by track name (named 01 Blah,mp3 - 02 Another track.mp3 etc.) so was surprised to find the Vibez didn't do this.

I LOVE THIS THING!
Just wanted to say THANKS AGAIN!

I LOVE the power-on volume protection.... no more blown speakers.
I LOVE the Spoken Word Filter. No more junk in my DJ mixes.
Love the headphone removal makes pause. Still getting used to that. I am SO used to pausing before unplugging.

I finally installed Vista at home. Set Vibez to MTP and connected it. Created synch profile with WMP11. Walked away. Came back and realized almost 1/3rd of my photos had been synched to the Vibez. This is the first time I've had more then 1 or 3 pictures on the Vibez... and you know what I discovered? Hey... this thing is pretty good at viewing pictures, too!!!
Har!

Thanks for everything! Throughouly enjoying this. I even feel sorry for those Karma heads that just will not upgrade to this. They don't know what they are missing. hehehehe

(And Defector, I was only teasing about the fullscreen tuner thing.... don't waste your time on that.)

Quick question:  Any issues with gapless playback when you do this?  And does it actually synch Ogg tracks including tag info?

Well.... I don't really have anything gapless.

and... I don't have much Ogg left. After the slow Vibez menu issue with the original FW + OGG's, I started to re-rip my stuff to 320 MP3's. Not even sure if I have ANY OGG's left. Left it at home today, so I can't even check.

I will move back to Media Moneky anyway. Tagging, although MUCH MUCH improved in ver 11 of WMP.... MM is still much better.

Question for those who use MM.  I tried the free version to see what it was all about and there were two things that drove me nuts.
1) Transfer rate was very slow.  It seemed 2-3x longer to transfer the same amount versus WMP.
2) When I transferred a playlist with songs already on the Vibez, it seemed that MM tried to transfer each song again so it took forever to transfer the playlist even though the songs were already on the Vibez.

Q:  Are these due to it being the free version and I just need to upgrade or are the full versions the same?

I tried searching around on MM but couldn't figure this out.  This also happens with my other players (Carbon, Karma, Insignia).  I like everything else about it but his drove me away.

Thanks ahead of time for any feedback.  (Sorry for temporarily derailling things here).

I only have like 3 playlists, so I never really noticed that. Also hard to talk about speed for me because Windows doesn't think I have any USB 2.0 ports, even though I surely do.

The paid version I sincerely doubt will affect either of those issues.
