Opinions on switching to iPod from Karma
Keep in mind that I can probably return my karma and get roughly $170.00

Subject: Opinions on switching to iPod from Karma
I bought my Karma just under 2 years ago (around 9/20).  It was a replacement for my previous Karma which i dropped, and broke the wheel (An Ext Warranty that was actually worth getting 8-( )

Anyway, my karma now lasts maybe 8 hours with volume around 2 to 4.  This is with vorbis, but I seem to recall getting at least that much when I had it at 10 or so (I have IEMs now) and probably that much at 18 (about the same as line level out) when going through my car stereo.  And for a while, I was getting random gaps in the middle of songs, though I haven't noticed that in a while.

I wouldn't mind the extra storage on the iPods (80-160GB would mean super high bit rates and lots of live shows).

My fear is that the iPods sound won't be as good (and given that most seem to think you need to change the EQ presets to get the sound right, I don't think i can tell from listening in a store....even if they did let me load it up with my music).

Reasoned opinions are greatly appreciated

If it matters, I only buy CD's.  I've ripped all my CD's to Flac (currently stored on DVD), so trans-coding shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks

a month old, i know, but as far as i'm concerned i would only replace the karma for a higher capacity, gapless and good eq ipod.
since rockbox fw doesn't yet support the ipod classic (80gb-160gb) which could provide the gapless and the good eq system, no deal.
between these 3 highlights, i would sacrifice the storage for gapless and eq and go with the vibez.

Word is getting around that the new Creative Zen is gapless.  I belive it also sports a Sigmatel chip, so the sound should be anywhere from very good to excellent.  And have you considered the vibez?

Don't hold your breath over support either, it's not going to happen anytime soon.

The time is past...warranty has gone bye bye, so I'm sticking with the Karma....seems like the random pops in songs disappeared too, though i've been listening to more internet radio than my karma lately (need to find new music to listen to).

As far as the Vibez. as I recall, it has less storage than the Karma, and I'd really prefer to have at least 2x as much storage and I'd rather have 4x.

At this point, i think I can probably keep the karma going for a few years.  Dropping it is unlikely, since i have one of the technomn cases (which was a great investment) and the screen isn't going to get scratched, since I have protectyourkarma screen protectors.....so as long as the drive doesn't die (and i can manage a battery change if needed), I'm probably ok.
