Subject: New iPods

I was very excited about the arrival of new iPods today, but as it turns out, my excitement was unwarranted. I was reading Engadget's live blogging of the event, and when I saw the iPod touch, I was filled with glee. But then they announced the capacity. 8 GB? 16 GB? on a portable media device? I just don't understand why they can't take that beautiful 160 GB drive out of the iPod classic and slap it in the iPod touch. I would be all over that. Oh well, guess I'll wait for whatever the next big thing is.

The time I would waste constantly cleaning the fingerprints off that screen, alone, would bring my work productivity down to a point that I wouldn't even be able to afford it.

The prices for the touch really are what make it not worthy to me. Even the nano just looks ugly, I'll stick with my current nano. (gen2)

EDIT wow just looked at the gen3 nano's and now they have a shiny silver back? For what? To ruin? A total step backwards from apple.

Not many Apple fans here; I don't think there's much interest.

I just picked up a 4gb with a friend's employee discount, though. Ended up being about 250 after tax.

Yea, and I bet Lyco can carry more then 3 movies and most of his CD collection. 4 GB... SO weak. How you go from selling 100+ GB iPods to a 4 GIG model with a phone and call it "progress" is beyond me.

Or, buy a Gigabeat and a Blackberry Pearl. Only downside is it's not one unit. Upsides: much much much more space, much much more customizable, much cheaper (still), better interface on Gigabeat, arguably better on Blackberry (trackball + keys > touch screen, IMO)... so basically as long as you wear pants with >1 pockets, or carry a purse of a size large enough to be at all useful (I know I do), I see no reason to buy an iPhone. Of course, if you want to look so hip you have difficulty seeing over your pelvis (or perhaps a more modern equivalent) and have money to burn, perhaps the iPhone is for you. And there's nothing wrong with that. But me, I'm gonna go with the cheaper, more functional, easier to use option.

Edit: I might buy a RockPhone, though, if it had a keypad and trackball in addition to the touchscreen. And a lifetime supply of screen protectors, since you'd have to use about 10 per year. And a less inflated price. That'd be sweet.
