Subject: Rules
So are we going to keep the old rules from Rioorg here? Like stuff about posting torrent details, etc? Who actually owns this domain and forum? Do they mind opening this forum up freely?

Well, I'd say the only rules we really need are...

1) Don't be an asshat.
2) Don't do anything that would screw up this little refuge for the rest of us.

Actually, #2 kinda falls under rule #1, doesn't it?  So that just leaves one rule:  Don't be an asshat.  How elegant.

Ankle, ameyer17, and kk have the final say, of course.  It's their world - we just post in it.

Since most genuine asshats have no real concept of what constitutes asshat behavior, I think it would be wise to include a blurb about not promoting illegal dowloading, torrenting, DRM hacking, etc.

I really dont have much say here... the only way I could get anything done would be to pull the plug on the domain, and I dont want that to happen</useless post>
EDIT:
And what rubennyc said about piracy, I think some members might have gone a little too far on this.  Then again, it's my ass on the line if someone comes after this site and I'm therefore a little paranoid.

Like I said, it's not my site.  I'm just the hired muscle.

ameyer, I don't think anyone would challenge your authori-tye if you wanted to lay down a few ground rules.  In fact, I think I speak for all the mods when I say that we will gladly enforce whatever law you, ankle, and KK want to bring down from the mountain.  go forth and legislate.

I think most of us have been groomed from the old boards to just know what is expected.  I think the "No Asshat-ness" rule is a good one.

Actually it is the ISP who would get any notices about it and pass it on to the owner of the server, not the domain holder, unless of course whoever sending them is a clueless moron who can't even follow procedure.

As for torrents and the like, how far you can go depends on the country the server resides in. Provided this server is in the USA which seems to be quickly becoming more and more of a facist police state I'd say its probably best to leave out links. Saying for example, "You can find it at the pirate bay," is perfectly acceptable with no URI.

If that's the way it is, ignore what I said earlier.   I'll let the people with actual power decide what goes unless something extreme happens.

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that a domain owner/site owner was not liable for user-created and posted information, such as forum posts and the like.

In my business, the appearance of impropriety can be just as damaging as actual wrongdoing.  Better to cover your ass than not.
