Good work man, really very impressive job.... how hard was it to do this?
what ere the tools you needed too? I may just invest in a 16 card myself you know and see if I cant help out my karma

Crikey, that player looks like UKRE's been at it. You desoldered the 44-pin connector, and soldered all 44 IDE wires yourself? What's the extra wire going straight to the CF connector?

Well, that whole operation wasn't really necessary. I pucked up the connector on the CF adapter trying to grind down the pins so the CF would sit closer and clear the two volume switches at the bottom,  but I ended up with broken pins etc. so it became easier to tear it all down and start over. It wasn't pretty. That extra wire is because my cheap soldering iron lifted one of the pads on the adapter so I had to bypass it. Ha, it thought it had me beat.

Well, like I said, it would have been a hell of a lot easier if I didn't mess up the connector on the CF adapter, then it would have plugged right in! The problem was on this adapter the card sits so far down that it wasn't clearing the volume switches at the bottom, so shortening the pins would have let it sit closer but when I tried to grind the pins with my dremel they started flying off,  so I decided to take them all off and hard wire it. I have a different brand adapter on order and hopefully that one will sit the CF card closer to the connector so all that won't be necessary.

Other than that, with the right adapter, you just plug 'er in, go into Upgrader, flash it, and you're done.

Transfer speed doesn't seem to have sped up much if at all. I haven't timed it though. Maybe i'll do that later with one of my HD Karmas for comparison.

Subject: Location of adapters
Hi guys. I'm new here. I was looking at DAPreview and saw someone mention this thread. Anyway, I looked on Google for 1.8 inch CF adapters (and variations on that phrase), and I didn't find anything that seemed to fit the 1.8" description--mainly things created for 2.5" bays. Where did you get your adapters?
