I play lists with ogg -q6 all day long. No issues other than a little menu animation lag when the pop onto the screen. Frankly, i'd rather not have the damn animation and just have my menus be there.

This is what TrekStor answered me:

thank you for requesting information from your TrekStor Service Team.

The problem is that OGG is an open source project so these files are
dealt with variably. This means that it is possible to reprogram OGG at
a computer rather than to change the player's hardware. Thus we can only
guarantee you that the playback of OGG files has been correct when this
format was published. The changes that took place in the meantime will
be realised in later firmware versions, if this will be possible.

We know that you as customer have the choice and we thank you for having
decided for TrekStor.

Kind regards,

I don't know what they are talking about - even STMP 3500 was able to decode OGG stream (Cowon U2 G3 F1) and in Samsung YP-Z5(F) where we have identical SoC - STMP 3650 OGG playback is very good. So IMHO TrekStor tell this to us because don't have anyone who know how to program. I'm sure of this. :(

Cpu,

Sounds like they didn't fully understand the problem.   In case you aren't aware, peter works for Sigmatel and knows the firmware code better than anyone at Trekstor.

So, while he does not speak for either Sigmatel or Trekstor, he is as reliable a source as you can get.

Yep I know that Peter works for SigmaTel - maybe he'll tell us something because I don't want to wait forever - just tell that there will be no upgrade and it'll be better for all of us. Instead of this Vibez is great player and I will buy remonte control and docking station for it - it's my replacement for H320 but on trips I have T10 & D2.

Peter,

How much would it help if we had the option to disable menu animations?

On a side note, can we have the option to disable the backlight for the "Player Locked!" screen?

Thanks.

I  guess I am going to re-rip my music to MP3. I'm so frustrated with this thing and OGG's. Couple days ago it just started shutting off on me. Every 5-8 minutes it would just *blink* and be off. Turn it on and it's fine. For 5-8 more minutes. Thought it was broke. Kind of noticed I had really been laying heavy on the OGG's.. like entire playlists of them, mostly Q10. Dealing with the occasional skips... mainly because anything bought in the last 2 years has been ripped to vorbis.

Re-flashed the firmware and formatted. Loaded up nothing but Mp3's. Flawless since.

Now MAYBE there was something else corrupt somewhere and the big reflash did it... but as far as I am concerned this thing CANNOT play OGG's.

Where's our update?

My music collection is about 80% Q6 ogg vorbis and 20% mp3. A month or so ago, I finally gave up on using vorbis on the vibez. I transcoded everything for the vibez to mp3 using Foobar2000. I used lame 3.97 at V6. In addition, I applied the track gain to even everything out and gave it a +6 dB preamp to make it nice and loud.

The player "seems" to work much better now, and since I now have a separate stash for the vibez tracks, I can use a bulk copier to re-load the vibez as needed, quick and easy. It "feels" like the battery life has improved as well. Besides the performance improvements, the lower bitrate enabled me to fit nearly 50% more tracks. I went from ~1400 tracks to ~2200 tracks on the 8 GB vibez.

by the way:
If you want to tell the difference between high quality vorbis and lossless, listen for the transients, and very high frequency sounds, like cymbal crashes and "T" sounds.

Do symbols tend to sound "watery" (or perhaps a flange affect) when compressed?  I haven't AB them, but there are times I hear cymbols and wonder, "is that right"?
