Vorbis puts out smaller file sizes at the same bitrate as MP3, but the decoding takes more power. Fine if you're on a PC, battery costly if you're using the karma.

What Lyco said. I've given up on vorbis, since the Karma can handle gapless, get longer battery life, and MP3 is what everyone *else* uses. Makes trading easier.

I'm the opposite, I gave up on mp3 since I couldn't get the gapless to work perfectly on Karma.  Plus, dbPowerAmp converts FLAC to Ogg Vorbis aoTuv orders of magnitude faster than to LAME mp3.  I may be hallucinating, but I actually enjoy the sound of Vorbis more than mp3.  mp3 always sounds a little bit tinny to me, no matter the bit rate.

dbPowerAmp is a polished application.  If I could only use one tool for everything, this would probably be the one. The issue I have is being locked into their version of open source codecs and having to pay for some of them (lame mp3).
Are you guys using the latest version and is this how previous versions worked?

FLAC has multiple compression settings, what are the pros and cons?
Vibez can play FLAC, are there any associated issues?

I haven't tried it myself, yet, but rumor has it FLAC on the Vibez has been associated with the dreaded, "Insufficient disk space" error.   :-p

But if size is an issue...
...use flake?

I haven't actually tested whether Vibez can play -l32 FLACs. But it should be able to.

Peter
I've played FLACs compressed with the -12 compression level in Flake on my Karma without any problems, so the Vibez shouldn't have trouble doing so either.
(Yes, I know this is an old thread...)

I believe Ruben was being funny in that the Vibez is only 12 gigs which equates to about 300-350 FLC tracks.
FLC plays just fine on the Vibez in my testing. Although I only had a few on it...
