Not much of a Mayer fan, but I would agree with that statement.

I like Keb Mo and some of his stuff. Does not sound really like "typical Blues".
The Clapton/King album was really good and not the same ol same ol BB type blues.
and Tedeschi.... well I am just in love with her voice....
And Bonamossa, although sounding very SRV-ish, really manges to get me tapping my foot. And he's brilliant in concert.

One of the guests on the Jools Holland show on TV on New Year's Eve was a bluesman, or at least what sounded to my untutored ears like a bluesman. His name was Seasick Steve, and, while not a young man, he clearly wasn't Dead/dying. He also played the complete pants off all the other guests -- Madness, McCartney, Minogue, and the Kaiser Chiefs not excepted.

I haven't really listened to Mayer much so I'll have to check him out and anybody named Seasick Steve is definitely worth investigating!
