Pinback's latest: Autumn of the Seraphs

...seems a bit "conventionally Pinback" at first, but then its layers start unfolding, and the damn thing commandeers your Karma/Carbon/Vibez (or, in my case, Rockboxed Sansa). ;-)

Just discovered Elizabeth and the Catapult while listening to WFMU.  It's utterly fantastic.  Reminds me a bit of Zero 7.  Make sure you listen to "Perfectly Perfect."  Actually, listen to all the songs on their Myspace.  They're all so different, and so good.

Good catch, cbc. Try MMW's 'Tonic.'

I found Gogol Bordello, and haven't been listening to ANYTHING else. Slav gypsy punk ftw.

Gogol Bordello FTW. They're pretty good.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Mika. The man sounds like a reincarnated Freddie Mercury. A lot of his music is pretty reminiscent of Queen too, such that I would believe that 3 or 4 out of 14 songs were Queen if I didn't know better and someone told me they were. His less Queenesque songs tend to be more electronickish, in a manner somewhat similar to earlier Imogen Heap, although they're both fairly unique artists. Anyway, if you're looking for something new, give it a listen.

I guess my tastes were pretty ordinary for this crowd, even before I started getting into my whole timewarp phase (It's been going on, for quite a while, no sign of letting up.)

I found a CD of the Sam & Dave album that Jake & Elwood are listening to, in the Blues Brothers.  I bought it as a gift for my brother-in-law.  I had to go back & get another copy.

I also have a strange attachment to "I heard it Through the Grapevine," and George Michael's version of "Papa was a Rolling Stone."
Tell him about the Twinkie...
