I've fallen in love with This Providence - Epinonymous as of recently. Catchy but not quite poppy, which I can appreciate.

Meh, The White Stripes. Listening to Sounds Opinions the other day, a caller's message they played summed it up perfectly. She said she wasn't able to put her finger on it earlier in their career, but this new album clarified it in her mind. She said they just sound like a ripoff of Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. I laughed my ass off at this and realized.......she was right. Meg is no Animal, but still true.

Ohhhhhh. Dat Aminal.......... Me get it nowwwww...

urgh,urgh,urgh,urgh.

dat funny.

Thanks for that list, Chet Spartan -- I'd been meaning to check out A Band of Bees (until forgetting about them completely), and I had no idea The Aliens existed. Yay new musics!

Lately, I've been rocking:

Thee More Shallows - Book of Bad Breaks, Monkey Vs. Shark, and More Deep Cuts
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther and Bamnan and Slivercork
Dr. Dog - We All Belong and Easy Beat

...and trying to get into the new Stars album, with disappointingly little success.

I dug that Midlake album as well.

Other stuff I'm liking:
The National - Boxer
Live at KEXP Vol 3 (release Aug 21st). Just take a look at this track listing of in studio live performances. I think it's my favorite so far and that is saying something considering the first two are STELLAR.

01 Pushover - The Long Winters
02 Australia - The Shins
03 (Do What You Want) Gyaneshwar - Frank Black
04 Move With Your Lover - Ghostland Observatory
05 Public Warning - Lady Sovereign
06 Hands Off She's Mine - The English Beat
07 Knife - Grizzly Bear
08 Mr. Tambourine Man - Cloud Cult
09 Elephant Gun - Beirut
10 Den Her Sang Handler Om At Fa Det Bedste Ud Af Det - Under Byen
11 The Prodigal Son - The Black Angels
12 Yr Mangled Heart - The Gossip
13 Your Movement - The Shackeltons
14 Young Folks - Peter Bjorn & John
15 And I Was A Boy From School - Hot Chip
16 Collarbone - Fujiya & Miyagi
17 Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards - Billy Bragg

Previous: Damien Rice - 9 Crimes
Current: Coldcut - Autumn Leaves [Nellee Hooper Vocal Mix]
Next: Calexico - The Black Light

Calexico and Coldcut are good stuff.  Still making my mind up about Damien Rice.

I'm gonna derail this thread and pose the question of Where do you find your new music?

Personally, I use Oink most of the time, either checking the Top 10 albums for the day/week or just surfing genres with the OinkPlus greasemonkey script (adds Myspace and Last.fm stations for the artist to each page, so you can find out if you'll like them with minimal effort).

The last few bands I have been turned on to are from friends\colleagues and going to shows.
Also rom what you folks are into here at Riovolution. I would probably not have picked up Neon Bible if I hadn't seen you all talking about it (and then a week later the album was mentioned in Rolling Stone).

Went to see one band and wound up really enjoying the opening act.

So:
1 - Friends
2 - Work colleagues
3 - Riovolution.com
4 - Rolling Stone
5 - Shows

Friends and acquaintances.  Or just watching for new releases of artists I already like.

I write occasional music reviews for a local magazine, and I find out about a lot of bands while scanning through the lists of new releases at allmusic.com. Otherwise, it's a combination of emusic clicking, review reading, and interactions with people like you. :-)

Speaking of which, that album by The Aliens is awesome, Chet Spartan. I was a Beta Band fan to an extent, but this is a fantastic.

Another way I'm finding music (surprisingly enough) is through MySpace Music. The other day I found this guy on there: http://www.myspace.com/emancipator - If you like electronic music that's more easy listening/technical such as Four Tet, not like techno electronic, give it a listen. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Still coming down from the Daft Punk show on Sunday.

Just got the new VHS or BETA album downloaded, can't wait to hear it!

Re-downloaded Coheed & Cambria's discography to prepare for the new album in October.
