Subject: Playlists on the Vibez
Is there a way to create a playlist on the Vibez independent of the now-playing list. like on the Karma? I thought the Vibez had all the OS features of the Karma...

Ah, I'm glad you brought this up here. I'm wondering the same thing.

Some other questions: Is TrekStor's support page the only place we can go to submit comments/suggestions to TrekStor for things like Vibez updates and firmware requests? I take it this the only (pseudo-)Vibez-dedicated discussion forum around...Do the things we say here even register on TrekStor's radar? I think I've been spoiled by the active feedback of the Rio and Insignia devs. I miss Rio all over again.

First, I haven't tried a vibez yet, but i looked through the manual and this is what I gather:

From the manual, it looks like "Organize" has moved from the Settings Menu to the Music Library and has been renamed "Organization".  Try scrolling down past Composers in music library.

EDIT: confirmed using DapReview's google video...its still named "organize", though.

Short answer is no.

Long answer is no there isn't.  ;-)

I guess this wasn't a feature that was considered as "well liked" so it was dropped.

Mind you, I think the gain of MSC is worth the loss of such a feature.

Hmm. Just checked. I didn't realize that was gone. At least tranfersing playlists from Media Monkey or WinAMP actually works well now. Not sure about WMP.

I disagree.  To me, this playlist function is much more important than MSC.  Not having it might just be a deal breaker for me, as long as my Karma keeps working.

Why? All the same functionality is available, you just get at it differently. Instead of having two sets of tools for building a list of songs -- the running-order editor, and the playlist editor -- you get just one. And you can then save the running-order as a playlist. The only difference on Vibez is that you can't create a playlist while listening to a track from a different playlist.

IMHO, this is a valuable function that would be sorely missed.  The piece I'd miss the most is the ability to edit a playlist while listening to a track from a different playlist.

I've got two young boys, one who is about to turn 5 and has his own favorite songs he likes to listen to in the car. So, I've got a playlist consisting solely of songs he likes. He doesn't like 90% of the rest of what's on my Karma. Having a separate playlist for him makes it extremely easy to quickly play one of his songs upon request.

If I want to add a track or remove some tracks, Karma lets me do that very easily with My Playlists -> Edit.   To do the same on the Vibez I would have to:

- Save my current Session so I can get back to it later.
- Play my son's playlist
- Add or remove tracks within the Now Playing list
- Resave the Now Playing list with the same name as before
- Restore my Session to get back to what I was listening to before.

I still think the Vibez is the best player on the market.  But now I find it's not quite enough to replace my fully functional Karma.

Add this back in, and the 15 GB Vibez goes back onto my wish list.

I completely agree with Ruben on this one. I love having my playlist editing unchained from current playback on my Karma. The Vibez' implementation definitely feels more like a loss than a modest difference, and it also has me rethinking my resolve to purchase one once (if) the capacity increases. I was looking forward to a Karma in a smaller form-factor, but I may just stick with my Insignia NS-DV4G and see where the firmware updates take it.

Peter: Do you know if TrekStor is entertaining the idea of firmware updates for their player? Or should we assume revisions aren't on the agenda?

I dunno'. Please don't take this as the Vibez fanboy sticking up for the Vibez.. I'm truly not. I just don't understand the importance.

Ruben, shouldn't you be driving instead of editing your playlist?!? :D hehe

Is this right?
You are in the car. Your kid wants to hear some tunes. You save your spot in your playlist and load up his. Play a few songs. BUT you want to still edit your playlist while his songs are playing.

Of course we are all different, but I don't get why it's a deal breaker.
Now... this comes from someone who creates about zero playlists on the device itself, so keep that in mind. And I don't take pubtransport anymore so I am not usually fiddling with the device much at all while using it. I could see this as something that would be nice while riding a train or the subway.
But ... deal breaker?!? Really?!?

I'd love to know about firmware updates, too. We know there is an "upgrader".
I'm assuming you copy a file over and then run UPGRADER...

The UPDATE SESSION on a QUICK BUTTON is something I so desperately want.

Pere, it works something like this:

- Daddy, play "The Eraser"
- At the next red light click Insert -> Playlist -> Son -> The Eraser (short playlist means it's easier to find this way than by album, artist or track).

I don't edit the list while driving, but often do when we stop to watch trains drive by or when we arrive at our destination.

It was there before, I can't understand why it's not now.

When I say deal breaker, that's when I compare it to my working Karma.  Once my Karma dies, Vibez becomes plan A.

I just thought of another use case.  I think it was FallingWater who brought this up on the old board.

Let's say you want to add to the running playlist a large number of disparate songs that don't have very much in common.  To speed up the process, we figured you could:

- Create a new blank playlist named "Playlist"
- go through your library and check off all the songs you want
- save "Playlist"
- then insert or append "Playlist" to the Now Playing list.

We found that for large numbers of songs this can be significantly faster than doing a whole series of appends, even with the return-to-last-spot in the menu trick.

The current Vibez implementation doesn't allow this.

How you get at it is also functionality. Personally I don't want to be burdened with the now playing list everytime I think about creating a playlist. If they are two different things in my mind, which they can be, they should be two different things on the player, which they can't be.

I was so confused by this discussion...until I actually read the page from the manual. (RTFM!)

Ohhhhhhh...you can't edit a playlist!

Can't say I do this much anyway
