I'm not fully up to date, but till some months ago Vorbis regularly scored as high or higher than AAC in double blind testing for perceptual transparency.

Edit: Apparently it still does: http://www.soundexpert.info/coders192.jsp

neat link. I'd have to say I generally agree with their results when I did lots of comparisons. Basically WMA, AAC, and OGG were able to sound really good, but ogg did it at lower bitrates and was a bit smaller.

Speaking of, you know a great feature they could add to the Avalon software would be an ABX comparison engine. Start two files playing at the same time (different bitrates and/or codecs) and let you switch between them. Help determine the highest quality that your ears can detect as played through that hardware.

+ The ability to tie specific presets to specific tracks or albums. For instance, you may want to build one EQ for older albums with poor recording qualities, another EQ for pop albums, another for techno, etc. While you can certainly build those and switch to them manually, it would be nice if you could associate them the proper EQ once and have it load automatically in the future. I've only seen one DAP that can do this, the Philips HDD-115/HDD-120.

You could do this based on Genre tags or something... or does id3v2 allow for arbitrary tags?  You could have an EQ tag with the name of your desired EQ.

I think id3v2 and FLAC/Vorbis tags allow for customized tags.

Subject: Some suggestions...
I habe the Vibez since it came out, and I also have the original Stretchbag which makes it uneasy to use the scroll wheel...

So some suggestions for future firmware-updates:

1. The ability not to only scroll up with the wheel but with also by clicking the wheel up (Menu).
With the Stretchbag I can scroll down the Music Library by clicking on the wheel down, but if I want to scroll up, I always come back to the Menue. Annoying!

2. The ability to program a button with the function "Delete current track"!
So I can store new Music on the device, delete the Tracks I don´t like with one fingertip, and afterwards copy the rest of my new Music I like back to my PC!

3. Also a Pitch function that makes only the music/text faster/slower BUT with remaining at the same tone pitch, so that when I hear an Audio Book faster than normal the voice does not sound like Mickey Mouse! :-)

Thanks for reading!!!

I second that.

I would like to have the RDS information displayed when listening radio. I got the fm-tuner STFM1000 and this function is provided in combination with the STMP3600. Seems like that TrekStor blanked it out.

Would also be nice to be able to select the FM-Radio for recordings.

RDS-COMPATIBLE (ENABLED VIA SOFTWARE UPGRADE)

I'm guessing that when Trekstor licensed Avalon firmware, radio was added rather quickly.  I doubt they would puposely blank it out.  (Although is RDS used in Europe?  If not, then I could see why a german company would want to leave it out.)  But it looks like RDS could be done easily.

I hope firmware upgrades are coming soon.  (I'll be getting a Vibez soon. I think.)

EDIT:  Ok, so I looked it up.  RDS is widely used in Europe.  So there is seemingly nothing stopping Trekstor from adding it to vibez.

Maybe they have to pay for it?

Yeah, I was thinking that too.  It really depends on the licensing agreement.
