Subject: Muse (Thanks, amrcanpoet!)
So I sampled and ultimately bought the latest Muse album Black Holes & Revelations, thanks to a recommendation by amrcanpoet.  I'm only on track 4 so far and am really getting into it.  So, thanks!

It's definitely an interesting one. I'm not really sure what I think about it yet, but it's not unenjoyable, if that makes sense.

Glad you guys are enjoying it.  Some of their piano composed stuff is usually the best.  Really enjoying "Soldier's Poem" the most, so far.

Radiohead?  Is that you?

How crazy is this album? I went off Muse a little while ago when someone I shared a room with played them constantly. I was, however, impressed with 'Absolution', if only because it wasn't all OOS-type rock and it seemed as if Bellamy was losing his mind. So does this one deal with the end of the world? 'Supermassive Black Hole' doesn;t inspire me as a lead single. Have they re-invented themselves?

BH&R is my intro to Muse, so I really can't comment from personal experience.  The reviews are generally very positive.  The general take that I've read is that they have restored some of the guitar rock feel to their music while continuing to experiment.

Here's what poet had to say on the .com that got me interested:

So, this is a little story about a little band. I've been into Muse for about the past 7 or so years. Their first 2 albums I had to specially order and import to a Virgin Records store over 50 miles from where I lived (this was before Amazon.uk allowed shipping to the states). Anyway, 'nuff said, I was a fan, and did what it took to get their albums.

So, recently here in the US, they've kind of hit a bit of a winning streak with their last album, Absolution. So, when the new one came out, I figured I'd just casually walk into Best Buy the day after, and pick it up (had Back to School Night on released date...). To my surprise, I didn't see any copies of the new album on the shelf.

Even more intriguing, when I went to the Best Buy CD employee (aka, the 16 year old girl smacking gum while helping a mom choose the latest "Taking Back Sunday" or "Yellowcard" for her son) and asked for the new "Mu...," she cut me off and said, "We're all out." Repeat this for about 3 record stores, and I finally got a copy.

So far? MUCH, MUCH better than Absolution and Showbiz, though not sure if it's better than Origins of Symmetry, yet. I must spend more time with it. They seem to no longer be a pedestrian Radiohead, and actually their own band. That, alone, is good news.

I'd say that Supermassive Black Hole is probably the most straightforward track on the album.  Or maybe "mainstream" is a better word.  But IMHO, the rest of the album is nothing like it.  it's a damn catchy song that I happen to really enjoy, but the rest of the album (which I also happen to really enjoy) is just different. In other words, I wouldn't write off the whole album based on that track.

I live in the UK and this band is British and seem relatively well-known here so naturally I know them and personally I really like their stuff. I've heard their latest album played around in places and on TV but haven't yet heard it all but certainly will be doing so. I feel Absolution was great and I wondered what happened to them (they seem to disappear for awhile) but glad they're still going.
