Well I ordered one, we'll see how it is. If I have trouble with the gapless I'll either rockbox it or return it. If anyone needs a couple of spare Karmas let me know...
Quote by vince:I've been waiting for today's announcements. Not because I wanted a widescreen video iPod, but because I figured that stores would be clearing out the old ones. Sure enough, the 60 gig 5G iPod is $299 while supplies last. And as you know, it's Rockbox compatible.
Mass storage, hassle-free gapless, FLAC and Vorbis support. It sounds amazing with the hardware equalizer enabled. Hell of a deal, too.
I've used it for about 4.5 hours total, and the battery indicator is saying there's half (well, two of the four bars) left. Eight or nine hours isn't too bad, considering I've got both the hardware and software equalizers on and I've been playing mostly Ogg Vorbis files. Also, I've been playing around with the options and themes a lot. It's far from optimized, so battery life can only get better. The only snag I've run into so far is that the music pauses for about a second when you enter one of the equlizer adjustment menus.Quote by Ankle:I'd be all over that if it wasn't for the battery life. I suppose I could use a car adapter but what about those times I'm not in the car? I must say the picture there is pretty, I like the wallpaper.
Because you can get the iPod right now and the Vibez may or may not be released here. I know what they said but I'll believe it when I see it. Plus the Vibez is maxed out at 15GB, where the new iPod is 80GB.Quote by LycoLoco:What about the Vibez? Why's everyone getting iPods

Quote by luketabor:but golly damn i'm regretting buying all my stuff from AllofMP3 in Vorbis now.
I try not to pay for anything that isn't both lossless and DRM free. I've batch converted my music between different permutations of MP3, Vorbis, AAC, WMA Lossless, FLAC (always converting from a lossless version of course) so many times now to suit different software/hardware, having stuff that's fixed in a particular format just isn't an option. (Though sometimes I don't have a choice, in which case MP3 seems the safest bet.)
Quote by luketabor:Well they're in 192 quality and at least Vorbis is a gapless format so it shouldn't be too horrible to transcode it. And after all, it's coming out of an iPod so it's not an incredible source regardless.
