I'll get BF3 eventually but rather wait for it to get cheap as I only play the campaigns, no multiplayer.

I wouldn't bother unless you are going to play rush and conquest online. The single player campaign is terrible and the coop missions are pretty sad. Both feel added just to check off an item on a list of features competing games have.

I wasn't going to do it - I've got enough to do trying to win PVP awards in War 40k: Space Marine. And there were some annoyingly difficult new levels for Orcs Must Die that came out.

But I bought Skyrim. I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before. I've got two problems with the game:

Problem 1: I can't decide whether to pursue the main quest lines or go off and do side stuff (smithing, barrow exporation, etc) - on the one hand, I want to level up smithing, buy a house, etc. But on the other hand that gets boring and I want to move on with the game.

Problem 2: The game seems to preserve old school mechanics for the sake of doing them old school. For example:

  • Menu interfaces are consistently horrible and clunky, providing no feedback on stats. On the one hand, I think this is sort of cool - in real life, if you slam a Red Bull, it's not like you see "+25 Energy" pop up in front of you. On the other hand, EVERY OTHER GAME does this. I feel like I'm blowing my talents because of the lack of usability, as a result.
  • Combat mechanics fluctuate between awkward and terrible, and "I bet that's what it would be like in real life."
  • I'll throw a graphics complaint in here - the game fluctuates between "this looks awesome" and "deep in the Uncanny Valley."

A fun world to explore, worth the flaws IMO.

Skyrim about 100x better than Oblivion. Looks great and runs well on older hardware. Many complaints addressed. Not buggy at all so far.

I'm about 30 hours in (level 18) and have hardly messed with the main quest. Some side quests, not many. Funny how things that are supposed to be urgent will stay on hold for weeks while I bum around.

Mainly exploring the lands trying to get all the sites on the map so i can quick travel anywhere at a whim. Clearing caves for resources to build blacksmith and enchantment skills. Playing with spells and filling soul gems.

Was using keyboard/mouse but Xbox controller for PC works well too.

One minor detail that bugs me is the foliage animation. Everything on the ground that is supposed to be moving with the wind, instead they move like underwater. Each piece gently swaying back and forth to its own rhythm. Sticks out now that the rest of the environments are so improved.
