We're all stuck depending on Microsoft or Apple to come up with something great. It's crazy how after almost 8 years, there still isn't a player that can play many codecs, utilize proper crossfade and offer cool visualizations. Seriously.. why?

Rockboxed devices play many codecs, offer gapless, have a crossfade option, but don't offer cool visualizations. Oh, and the iPod Classic devices are beginning to get supported.

I guess I meant DAPs that support all those features out-of-the-box. But, yeah, Rockbox is a decent solution. And yeah, I'm aware the iPod Nano 4th gen. does crossfade, but it's mind-boggling how the other iPod/iPhone products don't have it.

Btw, thanks for mentioning that last bit about the Classic getting support. Had no idea, just looked it up after I read your post.

I found this neat piece of news: http://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2011/01/04/rockbox-seen-on-ipod…

Since I do own an '07 Classic 160GB model, this looks promising. While I do love the Karma still, my iPod 5G 60GB (I had fun Rockbox'ing that one a while back), Classic and iPhone 4 have pretty much stepped in its place.

I lost my 4th gen Nano about a month ago, so my Karma is my main music machine for now. It had been used only at my beside with the dock and a cmoy. Now its my only portable. I do listen to music on my iPad more often, mostly because I use it at home for websurfing.

I don't think I've posted on here in at least a couple of years, but I'm really glad to see it's still here. I have fond memories of my Karma (my first DAP). Now a lot of us have/are using iPods... never thought I'd see the day.

Wow... browsing through some old threads. I just nostalgia'd hardcore.

I haven't posted here in ages either, but I agree with previous comments. Nothing has replaced my Karma in my heart. I have 2 working units and the guts of a third. Both operational units still get some play now and again.

I lived on this forum in 2004, still remember the community with enormous affection. Hope everyone is well.

Subject: The Karma still rocks
I use my Karma at work where it sits in its cradle and plays music for 12 hours a day, 3 days a week.  Most people that see it think that it is new, and no one complains about the sound.  I found a little battery powered speaker designed to hold an iPod (of course), but it just plugs into the headphone jack.  It's called ImainGo, and I ended up getting it on Amazon for under $10.

With a little tampering, you could easily add a power jack to it and forget about the batteries.
Here is the link from Amazon - It looks like the prices went up since I got mine, but the sound is really good - clear, good separation, respectable volume output, and if you don't have it cranked all the time the battery life is pretty good as well.

Like most others, I haven't posted in here in a while.  I actually came here on a whim, after just purchasing a new set of Grados, and remembering what audio snobs...er, philes everyone was.

Also, I came here in hopes of someone wanting to sell their Karma, as I found mine last weekend, only to have my heart broken to find that the drive is shot.

Maybe.  I'm also looking at the iPod Classic 120GB model, just for the sheer space.  Any downside to Apple's lossless format?

proprietary and only ipods, the cowon o2 and rockboxed daps will play it.
other than that, i read in wikipedia that it has a good compression ratio and fast decoding speed.
