Subject: Windows not recognizing Karma
Hey guys,

Not sure what the problem is but when I plug my Karma into a USB port Windows gives me the following message;

"One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"

A little history... About a year ago I replaced the battery. It had swollen and was pressing against the hard drive and wouldn't do anything. No problems with the replacement except the teeny tiny lock tab broke off. The Karma still plays and does all of it's other functions with no problems. I updated RMM, tried to load some new music into the player and got the above message. OS is Windows XP srvc. pk. 2

Is this a sign that it's time for a new hard drive? Is it something much simpler? Please help!!! I love my Karma like my only child!!!

Sounds like a driver issue. If it runs fine then the disk is OK.
Someone should be along soon with proper drivers. ;)

You can find drivers for the Karma on the Karma Support Page.

Are you plugging it into a front USB port?  If so, I'd try plugging it into a back port - I think I had similar problems in the past from using a front USB port.

Also, if you can't get it working via USB, you could always use the Ethernet port (though transfers will be slower).

Subject: Update
This was strictly a driver issue! Had I read a bit further I wouldn't have had to post. I updated RMM only to later read that it did not contain the drivers. I am relieved to say that my Karma is working fine!! Thanks for your help!!
