Self-follow:Windows Virtual PC won't run on my 2-year old dell laptop saying Virtualization needs to be enabled in the BIOS for my dual Intel processors. Well,  there's no such option in the BIOS and I don't want to update to the next, last BIOS update to find out if it has it.

So, I installed VMWare on Win 7, which I've also been using in XP to run Win2000, and then install RMM.

You have to go through finding the riouniv.inf, cat, sys drivers within the virtual XP or Win2000, but then everything works fine, assuming the Virtual Machine recognizes the USB interfacing, which mine did no problem.

That may be a bit of a bite in terms of accessing music files via the VM. So basically, you're back in the same boat and to access files on a server, should probably just use RMM and the Ethernet connection as Mocelet mentions.

You need to have a newer processor to enable virtualization.  Newer Core2Duos (and everything newer, excluding most of the Atom series) and higher-end AMD processor support this.  If it's not in your BIOS now, it likely won't be after an update.

You realize the irony that VMware invented virtualization and has always done it better than MS? Also, there are no problems using both cpu's under VMWare or any issues at all.

Also, my labtob is rockin some Intel dual 7700's, that's hardly antique.

Virtualization has been around since the 60s (look up IBM's CP-40).

"Laptop", not "labtop".  Intel says your processor supports VT, so it ought to work.

Also it installs fine in 32-bit Windows 7, no VM needed.

Just sayin'

4. Go to DNNA site and d/l Rio Music Manager and Rio Drivers installers

5. Install both above, launch RMM and scan your music library.  Note that your music library is probably in your "Win7" file directory so you'll need to navigate there during RMM setup

6. The last trick is getting the USB to the Karma to connect.  Do this by clicking on the "USB" text in the XP Mode window top menu.  It will drop down a list of things you can attach including "Rio Karma"!

Thanks a bunch! Totally forgot to get the drivers within Virtual XP.

Ugh. Bought a new laptop. This one has 64-bit Windows 7 Pro - my old one was running 32-bit Windows 7 Home. I think I'm going to have to keep the old one to function as a Rio Karma media center. 32-bit Win7 recognized the Karma immediately and I had no problem syncing with it.

The question is - do I prefer keeping the old, cheap (but still 100% functional) laptop simply for the Karma(s - I'm up to four, now), or do I want to try to jump through the necessary hoops to do the ethernet thing, considering that my router is in the basement and my laptop is upstairs?
