To the OP, if you have a Karma with a bad hard disk, then I seriously recommend a CF or SD conversion. This thread has all the information that you need.

I have done this conversion twice now (my Karma, and my wife's) and as long as you are careful with the disassembly and reassembly of your Karma, it is a doddle to do.

Subject: Rio Karma Sealed NIB
I've got a brand new karma sealed in its original package.  I've had it for years.  What would this sell for?

I'd say $100.
I rock a lawsuit when I'm going to court, a white suit when I'm getting divorced
A black suit at the funeral home, and my birthday suit when I'm home alone

I've got a broken Rio Karma or two lying around, I decided to make the jump to the iPod but it never sounded as good as the Karma, and the way it does playlists and the iTunes software really put me off portable music altogether, to the extent that aside some music on my N95 8GB I rarely listen to anything when I'm out and about nowadays (I do enjoy having Spotify on my mobile though).
Anyway, I came here looking for hard drive diagnostics software, one of my 1TB hard drives just failed (so glad I have two of them set to RAID 1 (mirrored) else my irreplaceable mission-critical work data would be in danger right now, so I'm going to go looking for that now (I'm thinking if the drive still works I'll run RAID 1 with 3 drives).
