Subject: The Sansa Fuze/e200v2 Rockbox Thread
Just a notification for all you Karma/Vibez-heads looking for a new fix: Official Rockbox test builds for the e200v2 and Fuze v1* are now available on the Rockbox forums.

As the owner of a Karma, a Vibez, and a Rockboxed v1 e280, I've been chomping at the bit for these ports to reach a relatively stable state (what with the Fuze and e200v2's excellent sound quality)...and they just may be there. My v1 Fuze and e280v2 have spent months eagerly watching from the sidelines...and I plan on putting them into action sometime tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes.

*v2 Fuzes are not supported by these builds, as their modified internal layouts require additional study. Also, e200 and Fuze version numbers can only be reliably ascertained by checking the player's firmware (requiring it to be unboxed), which makes purchasing a new one for the express purpose of Rockboxing it pretty much a crapshoot...Thanks, SanDisk.

I don't think there's a second version of the e200v2, so buying any e200 should be safe enough (but the v1 has shitty sound).

Remember, testing these builds on your Fuze COULD POSSIBLY brick the device (e200 has a recovery mode).  It probably won't, but it's possible.

True, but since sound quality matters, I'd say it's worth the effort of finding an e200v2 over the version 1 e200s which have been Rockbox-able for years. Sound quality is the thing that makes these new ports so exciting, IMO -- that coupled with flash memory and built-in expandability.

Yes. Indeed. I suppose I should have mentioned that. Take heed!

Nah, what's exciting is that it's a device you can still buy new :)

Just an update.
I RB'ed my Fuze. It's pretty stable now.
Recommend.
I rock a lawsuit when I'm going to court, a white suit when I'm getting divorced

Agreed. Rockbox on the Fuze is a blessing.

On a related note, the Rockbox team has just recently managed to bring the v1 Sansa Clips (which max out at 4GB, unfortunately) to a pretty stable state, too. :-) As with the Fuzes, the only way to definitively tell whether any given Clip is a v1 or a v2 is to check the firmware (with the exception of the 8GB Clips, which are all v2)...

anyone has any experience with the new fuze+? i read some bad reviews concerning the ui and touch navigation stating that it's a step down from the standard fuze. also, rockbox for fuze+ is still in development.
which one you do recommend?

If you're in the market, it's better to get one of the better supported devices, as there's never any guarantee that poorly devices will be supported better anytime soon.

The fuze is pretty solid, and fuzev1 and fuzev2 are both supported, as I recall

thanks, my man kk.
despite my karmas serve me well (the vibez got discontinued after the 32gb fiasco), i always wanted a rockbox enabled dap specially because of the sid (c64) and mod (amiga) format support.
also, an 8gb fuze with a 32gb card gives a quite acceptable storage and i read it allows folder navigation which, over the years, became clear that it's more comfortable to use than a library.

I know it's been a couple months since the last post in this thread, but I thought I'd mention in case it proves useful:

For those seeking an audio player app for Android, it might be worth looking into PowerAMP. While it doesn't quite offer Rockbox levels of intricacy and feature-abundance, PowerAMP does provide sizable format support, true gapless playback, crossfading, folder and tag-based browsing, and some measure of on-the-fly playlist creation all encased in an attractive GUI. While we await the Rockbox port's (hopeful) maturation, I'd say it presents a better-than-decent alternative.

EDIT: Oops...Looks like dapreview already made this suggestion.
