So I buckled - I don't want to spend an extra $120/year (mandatory!) for WiMax...I don't know what I missing.

So I went to the Sprint store and got an HTC Hero. Compared to my flipphone, this thing is FANTASTIC. Yeah, it's not a Droid, or Incredible, but what do I know? Android 2.1 should be around the bend, and I'm MORE than happy with it.

My question - what do you guys use for screen protectors for touch-enabled devices? I'm super paranoid about putting this in my pocket. Thoughts?

If it's glass, you should be fine naked. If not, PhantomSkinz is generally regarded as the best screen protector.

Also, regarding the mandatory charge--a hell of a lot of people have called Sprint, said, "I don't like this," and had a 2-year $10 credit applied to their accounts. Personally, I don't care that much--I'll work an extra 50 minutes a month. It's still cheaper than comparable AT&T, T-Mo, and VZW plans, none of which have 4G. Also, data caps have been completely removed from both 3G and 4G for this $10 charge, so I will be using my sweet sweet 4G to torrent much stuff :P.

One quick note - I'm in LOVE with Android + Sense...my only complaint about the Hero is that it's slightly sluggish. I wish the music player interface was a little more Rio-like, but the sound quality is *great*! Pandora and podcasting = content goodness.

Just picked up a Pre Plus last week now that they're available on the Death Star network.  Liking it quite a bit so far.  It could use a few more apps, but with HP buying Palm, that may spur more development.  Preware is a requirement.

So, did you drop AT&T and the lovely iPhone for the EVO instead? (late reply, I know)  :blush:

Back to the Palm Pre.. you know, I always thought of it as the Rio Karma of smartphones. It felt like history was repeating itself when people were comparing the Pre to the iPhone a few years ago. Pre had multitasking, iPhone didn't at the time. People at HP/Palm need to keep pushing the Pre and start giving it more features, a higher resolution screen, more memory.

I agree with you on a lot of points, although my Hero (HTC Sprint) sounds surprisingly good. My wife (!) got an Evo...I hope to move up to that soon.

I hope the Karma code has a...rebirth. As part of something new and fantastic. Seems too bad to let it die in this little corner of the internet/UK. ;-)
