Subject: No Palm Pre thread?
The time has come. I think I'll be getting a smartphone (quite the upgrade from a phone that can't even do web).

Has anyone else been eying the Pre?

They did not.
The Pre does look pretty sweet.
I've always hated the Palm OS. Always.
You need a Sprint phone I take it?

I don't *need* a new phone, but I've been with Sprint for two years, and my current phone is feeling long in the tooth (even though it works just fine).

KK, take a look at engadget's overview of the Pre...they ditch PalmOS and created a whole new one. It looks flippin' slick.

I think the HTC Touch is a mighty nice phone. ;)

I've an iPhone (which I love), but the Pre looks incredible. I might have even waited for one if I used Sprint.

Biggest reason I'm not interested is the Sprint exclusivity.  I'm OK with waiting for a GSM WebOS device and letting others beta test this one.

I stopped into a Sprint store and played with one for about 10 minutes - my biggest takeaway is that it's SMALL and fits GREAT in the hand. Waaaay smaller than I expected. Web browsing was easy, and what I expected it to be - I haven't used iPhone or gPhone, so I don't have anything to compare it to in terms of responsiveness, but it fell snappy. Desktoplike, even.

I desperately wanted to play with the Synergy system, but the phone wasn't linked to a Palm Profile.

The OS is great - completely intuitive. It's a little slow, but I expect that the responsiveness will get fixed in updates.

The keyboard is not a make/break for me - I think I could easily get used to it, especially since the phone dialer uses the touch screen. I was surprised - the keys felt more like rubber than anything else. I had been expecting plastic.

I didn't buy it. Yet. I'm waiting for a few software updates to drop, and maybe see what other models Palm drops.

From what I understand, the keys are very much like my Centro, so yes, they're a bit strange at first.  I was hoping for more Treo-like keys, but I guess we'll see...

Nephew got one and I played with it this weekend.
I like it very much. Having played with the 1Gen iPhone the Pre beats it every which way.
This from a longtime Palm hater.
Recommend.

I have been eyeing the Pre, but then being the the UK, it will be a while before they do one that will work over here. I had a Palm Vx many years ago and loved it. It died and I replaced it with a Nokia 6680 S60 smartphone, and after a couple of other phones, I now have a Nokia 5800. Not perfect, but still pretty good.

After playing with the Pre (and the Pixi) I decided I didn't like them. The OS seems pretty sweet, but the hardware is way too cheap. I need something to last at least a couple years, and I don't think the Pre can pull that off.

Also, I'm not completely sold on WebOS. The OS itself does seem awesome, and I LOVE the multitasking, but I just don't grok the gui the same way I do with Android.

Oh, and HTC came out with the Evo yesterday. I want with a burning fire.
