For what it's worth, Win7 slideshows through pictures for the desktop...one every 15 minutes or something. That may just be on the included Themes, however - I haven't tried to set up my own.

Yeah, you can have that bitch change every 10 seconds if you want, too.

Vista supported it ONLY through Vista ULTIMATE EXTRAS. MS has said there will be no more extras and in fact when you install 7 over Vista it REMOVES the extras including Dreamscene (video wallpaper) content.

...Well, to be fair, it is a different OS :P.

I have a Vista machine hooked up to a projector in my entertainment room (basement).
When I have parties people are always gaga over the Video Desktop in Windows Vista. I even had one person ask me "Is this a Mac?!?!" Because of course people think only Macs do cool shit like that.
Way to blow, MS.

Wow, that *does* blow.

I'll probably have 7 installed for my (very few) windows needs, when virtualization just doesn't cut it.

Oh, forgot to say: Currently running 7 (with Aero) perfectly well on a Lenovo S10. Works beautifully.

NO WAY. All bells and whistles, and no hiccups? I'm not brave enough to do that yet...

Sometimes you have to live a little, man.

(...I'm completely aware that I'm using that phrase to refer to using a pre-release [-ish] operating system. I am also aware of how depressing that is. Them's the facts, though.)

Subject: Update
I've done something I've never done before - installed an OS I paid money for!

Win7 Family Pack = 3 licenses for $150 is a pretty good deal.

Installation went great on a 1.8 gig Athlon with 1.5g RAM. It's slightly pokier than XP, but that's to be expected. Aero runs full tilt with the Nvidia 6600. Doing a dual-boot with XP for now with 32 bit.

ALL the hardware on the machine was recognized after updates (Creative sound card, onboard network, etc).

The only issue I've run into is through Internet Connection Sharing. The new install machine is piggybacking off a wifi connection on my host PC (running Win7 RC). Internet runs great, but downloads (including windows updates and firefox addons) are "corrupted". Luckily I had a $12 Micro Center wifi USB dongle, so back in action.

That ICS problem is still annoying though. It shouldn't be there.

Future plans include:
1. Updating the RC machine to run 64-bit (First time I'll have run 64 bit).
2. Get Windows Home Server up and running (coolest product MS has ever made).
3. Play with Windows Media Player (now bundled with every Home Premium - pretty cool!).

Anyone else had good/bad experiences?

Don't get Einkoro started on this one.  It gets ugly

Well, I never managed to make a bootable flash drive installer.

Wow I'm not alone. Flatty, try posting in my thread on the microsoft support forums:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network…

Considering you have the issue without dialup it would be helpful getting them to believe its actually a Windows problem. :P

Done. Let me know if they get back to you.

I'm not telling them that I found a $12 Micro Center USB wifi dongle and am using that on the guest computer.

Useless reply from them shifting blame to the dialup despite your post. I'll probably be relocated and with ADSL next month before this is ever resolved.
