Hey, I'm with ya in spirit - my gf convinced me that 1080 is essential on a 40". Not having seen 720 on a 40", I'd say she was right!

I can't tell the difference between 1080 and 720 on my 38".

Well, your TV may have the capability of upconverting itself (i.e. my TV is 1080i, yet the screen is 1080p, therefor my images get upconverted from i to p...Sony recently was sued for this, false advertisement).

Anyhoo...None of that matters if your DVD player doesn't have component or HDMI cabling.  If it's spitting out regular ole' RCA/Composite, your TV may display it with 720/1080 lines, but it's still an analog signal.  I have noticed a difference with upconversion.  It's ALMOST as good as Blu-Ray.

Got the TV's set up this weekend... watched one of my DVD's (In the Line of Fire) yesterday with the upscaling and I was very impressed.  I am amazed how good The Simpsons and The Family Guy look with these televisions.  Thanks for the help and now I just have to wait for HD programming to come to my area.
