Subject: Audio jack to wireless transmitter/receiver
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_220ACA300/Audiovox-ACA3…?tp=83

hey gang. need your help.
anyone knows if there is something like in the link above but with a normal headphones jack instead of rca?
what i need is:

[KARMA] --|~~~~[transmitter]  ^^^wireless^^^ [receiver]~~~~|-- [SPEAKER]

the cable connecting the jack to the receiver/transimtter should be as short as possible and the rec/trans itself should be as small as possible.
i'd like to connect one end to my karma's headphones plug and duct tape the trasmitter to the back and the other end would go into a portable speaker i have.

stereo rcas and a stereo unit would be better than jacks but i'd like to keep it portable.
thanks even tho i may sound crazy.

Subject: FM transmitter?
What you show is for video, not audio.

Belkin makes a little FM transmitter that will do what you want, but (in my experience) not very well.

http://www.google.com/search?q=belkin+transmitter

Just use any FM radio to receive the audio.  The problem is the range is quite limited and the quality is crappy.

Anyone know a good & powerful FM transmitter?  When I was googling, I saw this one:
  http://www.wholehousefmtransmitter.com/

Anyone have any experience with that unit??

My buddy just bought this one for his XM:

http://www.mobileblackbox.com/

I haven't heard it yet but he claims it's the best he's had. Lets you use any channel which many won't.
For $100 it better be good...

first of all, thanks guys.
yeah, that is for video, i know, awesley. i meant something like that but for audio.
i was initially looking for wireless connection but didn't know exactly what and wasn't specific. i also wasn't looking for a fm transmitter. then after reading your suggestions and analyzing my situation i found i need a bluetooth transmitter because i forgot to mention i have a bluetooth "supertooth disco" speaker and after reading more about fm transmitters i found i could also use one to solve my other problem.

so here's the situation:

room 1:

i have a bluetooth speaker which can work on a charged battery and a karma.

problem:

i need a bluetooth transmitter to connect to the karma which communicates with the bluetooth speaker itself eliminating the need for a receiver.

solution:

Zoom 4353 Bluetooth Universal Transmitter
https://www.thenerds.net/ZOOM_TELEPHONICS.Zoom_4353_Blueto…
supports bluetooth pairings of 1234 or 0000 and the bluetooth A2DP profile which matches my speaker but has the jack on the side. the karma has the headphones jack centered which would make it look ugly when connected.

Sony Bluetooth Adaptor/Portable Transmitter - TMRBT10
http://www.abt.com/product/32022.html?tab=3
looks small and could be velcro'ed to the karma's back. sony it's on the "proprietary" side so i'm not sure if it will work with my speaker. have to email them.

Jabra Bluetooth Music Adaptor
http://www.amazon.com/Jabra-A120s-100-61210000-02-Bluetoot…
great reviews, short jack cable and small sized so it can be also velcro'ed to the karma in an unobtrusive way.
i like this unit.

room 2:

i have an alarrm clock radio and another karma. this one is 60gb, has no battery so no worries of swelling and damaging the hard drive and works always docked as a jukebox. compliments to john30_06 for all the work. always wanted to use the karma as an alarm clock just didn't know how. first i thought about those a/c plugs with timer. After reading about fm transmitters i thought i could just connect one to the karma and keep it playing a looped playlist all night. then just set the alarm clock radio to wake with radio on the right frequency which would instantly stream the music from the karma.

problem:

i need a fm transmitter to connect to the karma and communicate with the radio.

solution:

AudiaX DGT-301
http://www.audiax.eu/301-eu.htm
small and works on batteries

iTrip Universal
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip-universal
matches karma's black, neat usb rechargeable

Whole House Transmitter (as suggested by awesley)
http://www.wholehousefmtransmitter.com/
4 power options, square and simple, long range but their webpage looks scammy

Mobile Black Box (as suggested by peregrine)
http://www.mobileblackbox.com/
looks like a power solution, 4 power options, best peregrine's buddy's had but expensive

Belkin TuneCast II (as suggested by awesley)
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.proc…?Product…
on/off auto toggle, prgrammable memory.
awesley, was your experience with this model?
by the way this page http://www.jiggybyte.com/tunecast.htm shows how to mod and improve this model.

the range ain't really an issue for me since i'm gonna use it on a single target in the same room (about 2 to 3 meters).
sound quality is a diffrent matter but maybe it depends on the radio and range too.

any feedback is welcome.
yeah i can be a long post whore sometimes.

Subject: Belkin TuneCast
Hi straycat,

Thanks for the follow-up post.  I didn't have a Belkin TuneCast II.  At least, I don't remember a digital display.  If memory serves, it could broadcast on a few frequencies (4?) and was switch selectable.  The audio wasn't very good  and range was just a few feet.  Good for using my Rio in the car.  But it mattered what side of the car it was on.

Interesting mod for the Tunecast II.

I'd like to transmit from my computer to anywhere on my lot, so I could listen while mowing the lawn or raking leaves.  Two hundred feet would do it.

Please, let us know what you end up doing and how it works out!

Peregrine, when you hear it, please follow up.  I'm especially interested in the effective range.

hey awesley, first off here's a review for the whole house fm transmitter: http://www.bityard.com/article.php?sid=908
from what i understood it covers a good range but it's advisable to run it on batteries and reduce the ammount of electrical devices in the vicinity, otherwise you're gonna get static.

concerning the bluetooth transmitter, the zoom is universal but still ipod shaped which is a tendency i understand but still hate (i switched from pc to a mac and i love it but i'm far from being a fanboy. karma all the way.) so i'm dumping it.
i like the jabra best. small and goiod reviews. now, i'm just having a hard time to find one in an european webshop.
you can't find anyhting in portugal, we're so damn small. i have to buy all my stuff from spain, france, germany...
i sent an email to jabra in spain.
the sony, i'll save it for a rainy day only if i can't find the jabra.

about the fm transmitter, as opposed to you, i'll just have a 2 meter distance between the tranmitter and the radio and along with the karma they're gonna be the only devices operating in the room.
so i dumped the mobile black box and whole house fm because they're too expensive and powerful for what i need.
the audiax looks like one of the test tubes from resident evil, the griffin itrip looks like a voice recorder and the belkin tunecast 2 looks like a blood pressure device. i like all of them! so suggestions accepted for the fm thingy.

Stay away from Tunecast II!  First of all, it has a small range, which would probably work fine for your purposes, but is not scalable.  Second, I've owned 2 of them.  On first one, the cable separated from the plug after two weeks.  After exchanging, the second only lasted about a month and a half.  This was probably 3 years ago.  Perhaps they've gotten better

awesley, what about the ccrane http://www.hobbybroadcaster.net/reviews/CCrane_FMT_08_03_2… and mod http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=3257 ?
the itrip has more bad than good reviews. i'm passing on it.

got lucky.

the audiax fm transmitter works with only 1 aa battery and auto scans for 4 best preset channels. no music breakdowns but the usual fm quality. low output but my alarm clock is cheap. gonna get one of these http://www.americaninnovative.com/products/neverlate-exec.… has a line in if i wanna connect the karma directly and line out to connect powered speakers. besides from what's on the site it's the most featured alarm clock available. most just have dual alarm.

the jabra bluetooth charges on usb, easy to pair and small. comes with a velcro to glue to the back of the karma.
music output on this particular bluetooth speaker has a low but audible amount of interference, even at close range. i think it's common to bluetooth technology and i might swear that the interference increases with the battery discharge. i think it sounded better with it fully charged.
it sucks the battery of my karma like crazy, tho. disabling the eq, makes it last longer, like usual.
my bluetooth speaker also has a line in jack so i get the best of both worlds in both units, wired and wireless.

overall, i'm happy, thanks crew. over and out.
