Subject: Rio Karma/Swollen Battery/Changing battery
I've had my Karma for well over 4 years and just recently have had problems. I found that it was "coming apart" and wouldn't work properly. When I disassembled it I found that the battery was swollen, and as soon as the pressure was relieved it was working like day one. I've ordered the new battery, have done some research about the leads and will anticipate the arrival of the new battery.

My question...

I am going to assume that I will have to cut the red/black leads from the sister board and attach them to the new battery leads? I know that the black/black lead is the thermosist and just needs retaped to the battery side. Is my assumption correct? Has anyone else changed the battery and willing to divulge the process?

Thanks in advance for the help!

It's as simple as soldering the black lead from the new battery to the spot on the board where the black lead from the old battery is connected; do the same for the red lead; and re-tape the thermostat to the new battery.

There are a number of threads here with pictures of this procedure, as well.

Subject: My Karma works again!
Many thanks to those of you who have a deep abiding love for the Karma. My battery arrived today, (9-16-08), and after a slow process it is back together again and working just fine. As seems to be the case, I also, without touching it, broke the lock switch off of the unit. There really wasn't much holding it on.
