While I surely agree it SHOULD be 199, I was just saying, some of you were complaining that if it was 199 it must be garbage.
Naaah.
Won't go through the boring calculations again, but IMHO 199€ doesn't mean crappy memory.
Or, more precisely, the memory used would be no worse than that of the smaller versions.

The only way to know is when one of us can compare it to another 32gb flash player :)

euro does not convert to dollars at the market rate when pricing is concerned...just look at.....well any DAP out there...

Sure, but then most DAPs are imported from instead of exported to the US from a European point of view. OTOH it may be that companies are forced to match the indecently low prices for electronic devices in the US which would mean that they are giving their stuff away for practically nothing given the usually obscene import tax and the low dollar exchange rate and all.

Sorry to go off topic, we import very few DAP's from the US, most DAP's sold in Europe come from Asia - China, Singapore, S. Korea. Part of the reason why we pay more is due to additional taxation laws on portable electronic devices, another part is the companies selling the DAP's know we have the money to pay these higher costs and despite some small moaning we still go out and pay those higher prices.

Ok, thanks for the clarification :) In any case it'd be highly unfair if a German DAP would cost less in the US than in Germany itself. Not that I'd be suprised but it still strikes me as weird.

Provided the insanely high price and very unknown availability of the 32 GB, I think I'll stick with 16.
The order I placed on the 16 GB version is labelled as "available on October, 2" and what I understand as "shipping" for October, 6.

Wait & See...

Well, German cars are also cheaper in the US than in Germany, sometimes more and sometimes less depending on the US-$/Euro exchange rate. And the Vibez, like most (virtually all?) consumer electronics, is built in Asia, so I don't know if it really counts as a "German" DAP. ;)

Further factors contributing to somewhat higher prices in Germany or Europe at all are a mandatory 2 year warranty enforced by law (You can argue about this makes sense, but I've already personally imported electronic devices from the US with a ridiculous 90-day (!) guarantee - I mean, that's not even three months!) and the fact that sales tax is always already included in the prices shown at (web)shops.

Well just got an email from trekstor, they did not confirm the price of the 32gb vibez....the bad news is that the reason they did not confirm it is because they have yet to determine the 32gb model's availability...

What does this essentially mean?...well it means that you shouldn't bother waiting for this model, so if you were hesitating, get what ever other thing you were after....

I'll wait 4 more weeks for the 16G to show up over here. That's it. November 1, I buy something else.

Well, as I previsously stated, I had chosen to stick with the 16 GB anyway.
But still no luck.
Both the "October 2nd" and "October 6th" have disappeared indeed, and on the product page, the Vibez isn't advertised as "Available in 4 to 6 days" anymore.

Oh well, my first order goes back as far as January, 20th so, who care for a couple days more...

*sigh*

Just called up TrekStor's US office in NYC (aka Datastation, 1-516-593-1515).  No definitive dates, but the guy I spoke to is under the impression that the 16 GB will be arriving toward the end of October in the usual places (J&R, B&H, etc.)

It would be supremely disappointing if they can't get these in stock everywhere in time for Black Friday, especially since it was announced a year ago.  Even more so if you factor in all the wonderful work Defector and the rest of the Cambridge team have put into the firmware.
